Raised in New England, brought up on riot grrrl, magnetized to Chicago, and obsessed with color, Malic Amalya started making videos at a cable access television station before being seduced by 16mm filmmaking. He holds a BA from Hampshire College and is currently earning his MFA from the University of Illinois at Chicago. His work blends both experimental and narrative styles to explore fluxuations in perception, memory, identity, and relationships. His work has screened throughout North America, including the TIE Cinema Exposition in Montreal, the Austin Gay and Lesbian International Film Festival, the Atlanta Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, and the Around the Coyote Gallery in Chicago. When he does not have a camera up to his eye he can often be found riding his bicycle through the snowy streets or drinking tea with his rabbit Beatrice.
